Random Friday Thoughts

  1. I now know that silence has a sound. During the Anaheim-Boston game (Game 3, ALDS), the Angels' Vlad Guerrero hit a grand slam to tie the game at 6-6. The second he hit it, the cynical Red Sox fans went quiet. You could hear a pin drop as the ball was slashed into the Boston bullpen in right field. No sound. Nothing. Just Vlad around the bases and his teammates celebrating. (Editor's note: They just went to extra innings as of this typing.)
  2. One of the best commercials on TV right now -- "The Michael Vick Experience" from Nike. Someone, anyone has to reproduce this for us roller-coaster junkies. Please? I'm begging you, someone make this ride a reality, not a commercial. Just too cool.
  3. I'm still debating whether or not to take my Monday off -- a three-day weekend, folks! -- and go see Mt. St. Helens. The weather has been pretty crappy, but if I go, you'll know.
  4. No vacation update yet...
  5. If UW loses to San Jose State at Husky Stadium on Saturday, it'll be a winless season for Keith Gilbertson (former Cal coach) and his charges. The Neuheisel mess, the NCAA investigations of the athletic department and the changing of the guard at the top of the university may be taking some of the toll on the team, but no... The Huskies are beginning to feel the affects of poor recruiting, even poorer judgement and sub-par coaching. Gilbertson is a career assistant coach, send him back into the background and get a real head coach...
  6. Cal-UCLA -- When was the last time Cal has this big of a game on its regular season schedule? No, you really can't say that The Big Game is this big right now either... Yeah, I can't think of one either. Go Bears.
  7. Did you know that the Seattle Storm is in the WNBA Finals? Yeah, me neither...
  8. Some of you know that I have drug dealers and users across the street from me. They finally took down their summer perpetual garage sale. Now, the dopers are just walking into the garage like old times -- staggering, paranoid, looking around in all directions before ducking in and out. I really don't know how to end this one, so I'll just do this....
  9. For one of the rare times, I have a three-day weekend. Once I finish the Aberdeen-Chehalis football game at Stewart Field tonight, I'm off until Tuesday afternoon. I'm not too sure what I'm going to do with myself, except for Sunday's ritual of football, football and more football. Well, maybe my wife know...
  10. Howard Stern on Sirius Satellite Radio in 2006? Ah well, I like my XM radio in my car. Besides, I've never heard any of his shows from beginning to end, just small doses throughout the years. Good movie, good books, the shows are debatable... Also, you have to pay to get Stern's channels (three of them - one for his show, another of his other programming and the third is secret). Hey, how are they going to pay off his five-year, $500 million contract he's getting... No, really... $80 million in salary, $20 million in Sirius stock per year... Now that's the King of All Media...

If I don't type here over the weekend, see ya on the other side. Ba-ba booey...
